FRIDAY 18th May Update

19/5/2018

Hi Everyone,

A reasonable turnout last night, although, I must admit to having concerns as 8.00pm approached.
Once again we started with ‘shortcuts’.  Numbers were down a little, but the content was varied. Only two were on topic, but that doesn’t really matter.  The most important feature is that members are making movies.
June had the letter ‘T’, floating around the screen, to music.  Obviously this took a while to sort through the many fonts and using ‘motion’ attributes of the editing program. We could appreciate the effort put into the movie. Gary D (old Gary) had many ways of using ‘T’, ‘Tee’, Tea’, and so on, but ended with a risqué version of a young lady calling herself something ‘Tease’. If I’ve spelled it correctly. Who can remember the first name??? We’ll need to watch that again.
Young Gary showed a short movie entitled ‘It wasn’t me’. A real excuse for forgetting his homework.  I didn’t get away with that at school.
Kevin puts in a lot of time with animation and we saw the fruits of his labour last night. Using green screen and a 3D program he had Gary running the same Gary through with a ‘broadsword’.  Not too gruesome – there wasn’t any blood.
The topic for next meeting is DANGER. Plenty of that around, so, cameras to the ready.
About 17 members listened patiently as John Millard, Gary Dusting and I mentioned experiences within the Club since we joined.
I presented some excerpts from old movies in the context of a timeline for the Club.
Gary gave some detailed descriptions about equipment used with film, aided by ‘young’ Gary and the camera on his laptop. This enabled the audience to see detail on the big screen. There was a lot of interest and quite a few questions and comments.
John rounded out the session with some reminiscences about events within the Club since he joined. Again, a number of members asked questions and discussed events.
Although only four of us are dated enough to remember much of what was discussed, it appeared that most enjoyed the presentations. Those who do go back a bit saw themselves in much younger state.  Oh Dear!
Ron had copied excerpts from some of the Club Movies and presented these to finish the evening.
Next meeting is our last quarterly competition for the club year.
Kevin has asked that entrants let him know, title, running time, if comments are needed and any other relevant information. This will reduce the amount of work to do on the night.
As a result of my issuing the wrong notes earlier, I am now able to add my thanks to Ron, Richard and Kevin for driving the equipment last night. Ron has asked for a member to ‘sit in’ with the drivers so that a few can assist in times of ‘stress’. That is when Ron is indisposed. Richard is a great help, but who knows when they both might be away.
Thanks also to Graham for quietly starting the supper and Lloyd for helping out.
On the horizon is our AGM.  For anyone who wonders what that means, it is Annual General Meeting. This is the time to volunteer for those duties on the committee. All positions will be declared vacant. Keep this in mind.  It is the positions that are vacant not the Office Bearers!!
It has been known for someone not present to be nominated. Of course he agreed beforehand.
Take care.  Stay out of danger, but if you do happen to find yourself in trouble – make sure you have your camera handy.
Cheers,

Jack
