My first message to our new web site is a welcome to you all to the New Year and our site.
Although still under development to a degree, it has great potential. Over time there is much to be added and of course, there will be changes and updates through the year. Why a new web site? The original was set up and managed by member Tony King. Due to other, more serious, commitments, Tony can no longer continue to operate the site. He was an expert in these matters, and easily manipulated the various pages, however, the committee felt a need for something simpler that anyone could inherit. As a consequence, member Elizabeth Nash took on the task and after much effort on her behalf, we now have a result which I find pleasing. Thank you Elizabeth. Syllabus Soon the second half of our club year will start with members movies. This is a chance to show any movie which you think will be of interest, or even one you are not sure about and would like some comments. On the same night we will present our latest ‘shortcuts’ and be prepared for the next round. Old Films A while ago I had some films transferred to DVD tape. Over the ‘holidays’ I have copied a couple to my computer and, using a steam powered version of Adobe Premiere, started to edit them and colour correct. I’m having reasonable success, given the original quality, which attests to what I have learned at our club. Unfortunately, the video corrections take a fair bit of rendering and I sometimes nod off while waiting! Old Technology Many years ago I bought what might be described as an upper mid level projector, speakers, DVD and receiver. All have worked in sympathy and more than adequately. – until recently, when the receiver wouldn’t process vision. The service chap at Qualifi, Mount Waverly, says we might have a problem in that their technician might not have anything old enough to connect the receiver to. I’ll find out when the technician returns from holiday. This could lead to major changes as the modern receivers have no suitable connections for my equipment!!! Another bit of technology I have had for a while is an external hard drive. This particular one refused to work despite trying in different machines and trying different leads until my brain went into gear and I tried a different power supply. All was well, and yes – I have backed up the data. Making Movies There are many people out there shooting footage on a variety of equipment including phones. I hope we can persuade some of them to think of making the footage into a movie. The subject doesn’t matter – from babies on the lawn to grandma’s birthday they are all important. Think of looking at them in 40 years time (provided we can still play them. Join a club and remember the motto –MAKE MOVIES, MAKE FRIENDS Cheers, Jack
